Learning about the parish family

How do we prepare?

At the start of our Advent RE topic, Preparations, Reception Class thought about how important it is to prepare well every day. They made timelines to show how they prepare to come to school. They had to think carefully about the order of events - don't put your shoes on before you get out of bed!

Who is the 'real' Santa Claus?

In our RE topic on Preparations Year 3 investigated the story of St Nicholas, often thought to be the real Santa Claus. They made St Nicholas models and visited an American website www.stnicholascenter.org to research the many legends about him.

Reception Class visit St Alban's church

Reception Class visited St Alban's Church as part of their work on Baptism. They looked at the font, the altar and the lectern.

Year 6's work on Judaism

Year 6 have been finding out about the Jewish New Year or Rosh Hashanah in their work on Judaism. They tried apples dipped on honey which are eaten at Rosh Hashanah to symbolise the hope of a sweet new year.

Year 1 are finding out about Baptism. They listened very carefully to the words the priest uses then they acted out part of the celebration.

Year 3 studied Millais' painting of The Carpenter's Shop then put themselves into the painting. We talked about what Mary and Joseph taught Jesus and how important families are.

Islam Week

This week in RE we are learning about Islam. Today, we were visited by Nasim Ali who told us all about her faith.
We have found out about Muslim traditions and cultures, how Muslims pray and what Muslims believe in. The children had lots of questions to ask Nasim and found today very interesting.

The Feast of the Epiphany

Today we are celebrating the Feast of the Epiphany when the Three Kings visited Baby Jesus.
" When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. They saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him.Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh." (Mat 2:10-11).

Our new RE topic.

Our new topic is called Difference. Year 5 and 6 have enjoyed creating collages of 'different' people from around the world. We have studied how 'difference' can lead to prejudice but also to enrichment. We are going to study 'The Communion of Saints' (all those who make up the Church) and research different saints.

To celebrate St. Alban's Day, the whole school enjoyed a visit from Mr. Twister. Some of us dressed up in different costumes and others were even given balloons as prizes. Everyone had lots of fun!
At the end of the afternoon, we all gathered together in prayer.
