Recently we embarked on a Comenius cookery fortnight where all children had the opportunity to cook recipes from Turkey and Finland. This was a roaring success, with children tasting foods they never imagined they would. Thank you for all of your help! The recipe books are still available to buy at £2 from Mrs Reynolds.

Year 4 watched video clips from the Save the Children website as part of their Citizenship work on Friendship. They found out about friends living in Kroo Bay in Sierra Leone and wrote Friendship poems. There was lots of information on the website about the work Save the Children do and how our fundraising will help.

These Year 4 children spent a day at the Dryden Centre working on 'Stop Motion' animation. The children moulded their own plasticine characters and very patiently filmed very tiny movements which eventually built up to a short film. The children are hugley looking forward to watching the film at the Odeon in the Metro Centre on Friday.

Today, everyone in school wore a hat to raise money for the Haiti Eathquake Appeal. There were some really funny and funky hats; Mrs Fox wore a Zorro hat and Mrs Reynolds look very summery in a huge sombrero! In classes, we found out about Haiti and said this prayer together:
Dear Lord
We pray for the people of Haiti.
Comfort those who hurt and be with those who are sad.
We pray for food, water, shelter and healing for the people of Haiti.
Help us to share what we have with our sisters and brothers
as they begin to rebuild their lives
Amen

As part of the School Linking Network, Year 4 from Brighton Avenue Primary School visited St Alban's Year 4 this week. In the morning they listened to Mr Glickman from the Gateshead Jewish community talking about the synagogue. They also worked with Susie, a story-teller, on a tale about Hannukah. In the afternoon they were very busy making mezuzahs, havdalah candles, tasting Jewish food and sketching artefacts. Many of the children have become friends and we are sure we will keep in contact with Brighton Avenue.

A message to all Y4 pupils
This half term our Design & Technology topic, "Take a seat" has proved popular with our Y4 class. We looked at a range of chair designs and then embarked upon designing our own chairs for a fantasy character.
We have been exploring expressive and descriptive language in poetry. This is an example of what we have created as a class. Both myself and Mrs Husband are sure that you will be very impressed!
