Year 5 and 6 visited The Hatton Gallery this week as part of the Audio- Visual Festival.
The exhibition presented six contemporary artist's rooms, on the theme of energy and sound.

Year 5 and 6 had a fantastic afternoon working with members of the Newcastle Eagles. The children found out about healthy eating and healthy living and had fun playing basketball.
The lucky children in the picture were awarded with prizes due to their hard work during the session.

Cycle Training

Year 5 and 6 have been involved in cycle training sessions this week. The children are being trained up to level 2 of the National standards for Child Cyclists Training, known as 'Bikeability'.
So watch out, we may be coming to a road near you!!

The whole school, teachers and children enjoyed a delicious Christmas lunch today. Everyone was full of Christmas cheer as we sung carols and pulled crackers.

Trip to Thornley Woods

Year 5 and 6 had a fantastic time at Thornley Woods. Both classes went orienteering around the woods using only a map and a compass to guide them.

Man of the Match

St. Alban's football team played their first match of the season last night at Gateshead Stadium. Our boys played very well and drew 1: 1 with Wardley Primary. Our man of the match, above, scored a brilliant goal.

It's election time. Year 5 have been busy preparing for the Key Stage 2 School Council elections. Candidates have written and delivered speeches and votes have been cast. Watch this space....

Comenius Celebration Day

Today St. Alban's celebrated the huge success of our Comenius project.
Each class had worked on a traditional tale from one of the Comenius countries and presented their work to an audience of parents. We all enjoyed snacks from each country after our performances and had a delicious European lunch. What a day!

The Gateshead Athletics Festival

Here is our Athletics Team just before leaving for Gateshead Stadium. We look very professional in our school tracksuits!

Here we are at the opening of the Athletics Festival. We waved our 'Life to the Full' banner with pride. All the children who took part had a fantastic time and competed against children from over 40 Gateshead schools. It may have rained but we never stopped smiling. There was sprinting, skipping, long distance running, throwing, jumping and lots of cheering as we gave it our all.
Miss Robinson and Miss McVittie also had a great day and felt very proud of the children. Well done Team St. Alban's!

Football Season begins!

Our Football team has 2 upcoming matches:
Thursday 2nd October
St. Alban's v St. Augustine's
Held at Lingey House Primary School.

Thursday 9th October
St. Alban's v Falla Park
Held at Wardley Primary

Each child must be collected from school and taken straight to the venue. A responsible adult is to remain at the venue throughout the game and ensure the child is taken home safely. Thank you.

Good luck boys and don't forget your football boots and shin pads.

Year 5's ICT topic this half term is Graphical Modelling. The children have been making collages using paper and are going to try to recreate the same effect using the computer. The work that was produced during last week's lesson was very colourful.

Trips to Gateshead CLC

This week, children from Year 2, 3, 4 and 5 are visiting Gateshead City Learning Centre. Children are going to explore new technology. Year 2 and 3 are using a digital video, animation, digital music and digital photography. Year 4 and 5 have the opportunity to create an animated slideshow and to broadcast live on the internet as part of Gateshead CLC Radio.

Trips to Heworth CLC

This week, Year 4, 5 and 6 are visiting Heworth CLC to use new ICT software.
Today, Year 6 had the opportunity to create their own animations. There are definitely some candidates who could work for Pixar/Disney in the future!
Year 5 used Control Technology where they operated traffic lights and used sensors to create a 'dream bedroom'.

Year 5 had a great time reading and performing the poem The Ceremonial Band. The children, in their groups, decided who would read the part of each instrument and they all joined in for the chorus. We all enjoyed listening to each other.

The children in Year 5 have been enjoying producing their own drawings based on Lowry's industrial paintings. This work follows a lovely visit to the Lowry exhibition at the Sunderland Winter Gardens on Monday afternoon. Please look in the gallery for more photographs of the children working.

Year 5 visit to Cardinal Hume, 12.3.08

On Wednesday 12th March, Year 5 were involved in a Singing Day at Cardinal Hume. They worked really hard all afternoon, learning new songs and practising for their performance in the evening.
The behaviour from the Year 5 children was outstanding and their singing was absolutely spectacular. The whole school were also lucky enough to watch the Year 5's perform in Merit Assembly.
Well done Year 5. Great ambassadors for St. Alban's.

Fairtrade shopkeepers

We were given the responsibility of being 'shopkeepers' for the fairtrade stall.
As you can see, we look very professional. What's more, our maths skills are so good, you certainly wouldn't be short changed!
