Advent Wreath Blessing

Anti-bullying wrist bands

Anti-bullying wristbands were on sale during anti-bullying week, 14th and 18th November, to raise money for the charity anti-bullying alliance. We raised a total of £103. Thank you to all who bought them.

Thank You!

At St. Alban's school we are so lucky to have excellent volunteers that come into school when needed. Recently we embarked on a Comenius cookery fortnight where all children had the opportunity to cook recipes from Turkey and Finland. This was a roaring success, with children tasting foods they never imagined they would. Thank you for all of your help! The recipe books are still available to buy at £2 from Mrs Reynolds.

Year 5's performance of 'Easter!'

Year 5 told the Easter story through song, action and narration. 'Easter!' tells of Jesus' preaching, teaching and miracles, his joyful entry into Jerusalem and the events leading up to his arrest and crucifixion. It concludes with the wonder of his friends when they see the risen Christ.

Highly Commended in National Poetry Competition!

Last June children worked with Gateshead's Ethnic Minority and Traveller Achievement Service to celebrate Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month. We were delighted to discover that the work of one of our children had been Highly Commended in the National Poetry Competition.

EMTAS Celebration Day

Bernadette and Sabrina Smith were invited to a celebration ceremony at Dryden Teachers' Centre by the Ethnic Minority and Traveller Achievement Service. They were presented with certificates by the Mayor of Gateshead. The girls had made a dvd of Bernadete's First Holy Communion with Digital Voice Media Productions. They also received certificates from the Royal Television Society for their film.

Several Year 5 children visited Heworth CLC today. The children had great fun building and programming lego robots! The children programmed the robots to do lots of difficult tasks.... what next... a robot that does your homework?

Cycle Training

Year 5 and 6 have been involved in cycle training sessions this week. The children are being trained up to level 2 of the National standards for Child Cyclists Training, known as 'Bikeability'.
So watch out, we may be coming to a road near you!!

Man of the Match

St. Alban's football team played their first match of the season last night at Gateshead Stadium. Our boys played very well and drew 1: 1 with Wardley Primary. Our man of the match, above, scored a brilliant goal.

Year 5's ICT topic this half term is Graphical Modelling. The children have been making collages using paper and are going to try to recreate the same effect using the computer. The work that was produced during last week's lesson was very colourful.

Trips to Gateshead CLC

This week, children from Year 2, 3, 4 and 5 are visiting Gateshead City Learning Centre. Children are going to explore new technology. Year 2 and 3 are using a digital video, animation, digital music and digital photography. Year 4 and 5 have the opportunity to create an animated slideshow and to broadcast live on the internet as part of Gateshead CLC Radio.

Year 5 had a great time reading and performing the poem The Ceremonial Band. The children, in their groups, decided who would read the part of each instrument and they all joined in for the chorus. We all enjoyed listening to each other.

Year 5 visit to Cardinal Hume, 12.3.08

On Wednesday 12th March, Year 5 were involved in a Singing Day at Cardinal Hume. They worked really hard all afternoon, learning new songs and practising for their performance in the evening.
The behaviour from the Year 5 children was outstanding and their singing was absolutely spectacular. The whole school were also lucky enough to watch the Year 5's perform in Merit Assembly.
Well done Year 5. Great ambassadors for St. Alban's.

Year 5 have been enjoying Art this half term. We have been looking at containers made by the artist Picasso. We have designed our own containers based on these pieces. We have started to make our own containers out of clay.

Fairtrade shopkeepers

We were given the responsibility of being 'shopkeepers' for the fairtrade stall.
As you can see, we look very professional. What's more, our maths skills are so good, you certainly wouldn't be short changed!
