Curriculum
At St. Alban’s, we value the contributions of parent’s, carers, grandparents and the wider family. A Parent’s Evening is held in the autumn term and the spring term for parents/carers to find out how their child is progressing. A formal report is sent out in the final term.
At the beginning of the autumn term, school also holds a curriculum evening to introduce staff to parents and share the curriculum and answer any questions that they have.
Curriculum Subjects
RE
At the heart of Catholic Education lies the Christian vision of the human person. This vision is explored in Religious Education (RE) making RE the core subject in a Catholic school. The specific contribution to the life of the Catholic school of curriculum RE is primarily educational. Its primary purpose is to draw pupils into a systematic study of Catholic Christianity and to explore the contribution of Christianity and other religions to culture, personal commitment, and action in everyday life.
English
English will teach pupils to speak and write fluently so that they can communicate their ideas and emotions to others, and through their reading and listening,
Maths
Mathematics education provides a foundation for understanding the world.
Science
A science education provides the foundations for understanding the world through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics.
Art
Art and design education should engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design.
Computing
Computing education equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world through computer science and digital literacy.
RSE
Relationships and sex education.
Design Technology
Design and technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems
Geography
A high-quality geography education should inspire in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.
History
A high-quality history education will help pupils gain an understanding and knowledge of Britain’s past and the wider world.
MFL
Learning a foreign language is a liberation from insularity and provides an opening to other cultures. At St Alban’s, KS2 children learn French or Spanish.
Music
Music is a universal language. At St Alban’s we make music an enjoyable and creative experience encouraging children to participate in musical experiences to build confidence and understanding, recognising and developing their talents as musicians.
P.E
A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities.
P.S.H.E
PSHE is a curriculum that give pupils an awareness of the wider world as well as looking inwards at being an upstanding member of the wider community.
Celebration Weeks
This year, we have introduced ‘celebration weeks’ in Early Years. This is an opportunity for parents/carers to come into the Early Years once every half term to see what their child has been doing in class and look at their learning journals. Family members are also welcome to attend our ‘stay and play’ sessions that take place the last Thursday of every month in Nursery. In Reception class, family members are invited to sign up for ‘stay and count’ and ‘stay and spell’ sessions across the year.
We encourage parents to get involved in supporting us at St. Alban’s. We have ‘Reading morning’ in Reception, Year 1 and 2 which takes place every Monday, Thursday and Friday and family members are invited to come in to school to read with their own and other children. To do this on a regular basis, we ask that you fill in a DBS form for police clearance.
If your child receives a letter about an educational visit and you are available to help on this date, could you please let the office know.
Support from families is extremely important and we really value all of the contributions and support that we are given.
